Scaling is not for everyone.

Ultimately, your focus will shift away from what matters.

There’s only one way to scale: following a cooky-cutter approach. That’s why Ford can produce a pick-up every two minutes. However, those successful onboarding more customers, more employees, and more suppliers know that variation kills scaling. Efficiency is the only way to success.

Regardless, scaling only in one facet of your business won’t help. If marketing, selling, and delivering your service require a personal touch, scaling will remain an illusion.

On the other hand, stuff that doesn’t scale quickly is pricey. Remember, we all have the same amount of minutes within a day. That’s why time is so valuable. The more touchpoints and meaningful interactions you seek, the more expensive the service. Look at doctors and attorneys.

The same is for good memories. But unfortunately, it is far and in between, the consequence of inefficiency and triggered emotions. Repeating that is hard.

Bottom line: Sometimes, staying at your current scale is where you need to be. Introducing the right amount of inefficiencies may show that you care about what matters.
